Koch, “Momenzadeh proved himself”

PLDC - In the postponed 5th week match between Esteghlal Tehran and Malavan Anzali on 3/12/2002, Esteghlal defeated their guests with the score of 3-0. Ahmad Momenzadeh of Esteghlal scored two of the goals for his team in the 54th and 88th minutes to make him the hero of the day.

After the match Ronald Koch, head coach of Esteghlal Tehran said, “You must not expect any less from a team like Esteghlal Tehran. After every game with foreign clubs, our players have adjustment problems but we tried to reduce the mental pressur and stress on the boys. Our boys played for 90 full minutes against Malavan and they worked smoothly and the team did not lose its structure.”

“I am glad that Momenzadeh has made up for the previous match against Naftchi. He has proved himself to us. Malavan spent the first half defending itself and it was natural that they would become gradually tired in the second. I told my boys to increase the pressure in the break and this fact gave us the victory. Malavan did not play well and only defended itself. Maybe if they had attacked they would have been more successful.”
