AFC - Despite
suggestions in recent weeks that he would be returning to English football
for the new season, Iranian international striker Karim Bagheri has decided
to return home and sign for Tehran giants Pirouzi.
Bagheri signed a one-year contract with the reigning Iranian League champions late last week, joining them from Qatari club Al Sadd. He was due to begin pre-season training with Pirouzi on Saturday. Bagheri spent the 2000-01 season at English Premiership club Charlton Athletic in 2000-01 but made just one substitute appearance for the South London side before joining Al Sadd. In recent weeks, Bagheri had hinted that he would be joining an undisclosed English League club for the new season but he later claimed that the deal had fallen through following the collapse of the league's television contract with now-bankrupt ITV Digital. |
