Nigeria: Okoye's Body Released by Iran

Allafrica - The remains of former Enyimba and Rangers late goalkeeper, Sam Okoye are expected in Nigeria this week.

After a 10-month wait, the Nigerian Embassy in Iran and the Ministries of Health, and Internal Affairs in Iran have reached a compromise on transporting the body of the former youth international back home.

The duo of Daniel Okechukwu Olerum and Sunny Okoye disclosed from the Iranian capital, Tehran that officials of Sorkh Poushan FC have agreed to foot the flight bills of the late footballer.

"For the first time in ten months, I saw my brother's lifeless body," a sad Sunny Okoye told KICK OFF.

"The club has agreed to pay for the flight from Tehran to Lagos, while they expect the family to take over from there to Enugu.

"I'm happy that is sorted but where do I go from there? I've lost my dad and there is no hope for money from anywhere to cover the cost from Lagos or arrange a proper burial for Sam," the younger Okoye added.

Former Rangers striker Daniel Olerum, who has been away from his club football said now is the time for everyone to support the Okoye family.

"It's been a personal tragedy and trying moment for me, but now am a bit relieved," the Foolad FC striker added.

"The most important thing for now is for people to extend their support to the family, because they are practically down financially and mentally.
