Blazevic dismissed as Hajduk coach

ZAGREB - Croatian champions Hajduk Split have sacked coach Miroslav Blazevic after less than four more in charge following a string of disappointing results.

"After consulting with the club management we have agreed with Mr Blazevic to cancel our cooperation," said club president Branko Grgic.

Blazevic, who led Croatia to third place at the 1998 World Cup in France, took over at Hajduk in the summer.

However, he failed to steer the club past the preliminary stages of the Champions League, where they lost 8-0 on aggregate to Hungarian side Debrecen in the second qualifying round.

Hajduk have also failed to impress their fans at home and are eight points behind leaders and arch-rivals Dinamo Zagreb in the domestic championship.

Blazevic was sacked after Hajduk lost 1-0 at home to FC Rijeka on Saturday. They have won six league titles to Dinamo's seven since Croatia's independence in 1991.
