Taremi and Goni Naor

PLDC - Israeli Channel 5 has reported that Goni Naor, the Israeli midfielder of Larissa, exchanged shirts with Mehdi Taremi, the Iran national team striker, after Larissa’s goalless draw against Olympiacos.

According to the report, Naor played the full 90 minutes and played an important role in Larissa’s 0-0 draw against Olympiacos. He was tasked with marking Taremi throughout the match and, in particular, closely tracked him during corner kicks, leading to several direct physical battles between the two players.

The report added that at the end of the match, the two players exchanged shirts, an act that drew attention given the current tensions in the region. However, it remains unclear whether Taremi was aware that Naor is Israeli.

The incident comes at a time when Sardar Azmoun, Taremi’s strike partner in Iran’s national team, was dropped from the squad after images emerged of his meeting with the Ruler of Dubai following attacks by the Islamic Republic on the United Arab Emirates.
