PTV - Iranian footballer Mehdi Taremi has decided to extend his contract with the Persian Gulf Pro League club Persepolis for another season.

Persepolis spokesman Pendar Khomarlou said on Monday that the 24-year-old, who also plays as a forward for the Iranian national football team, opted to play for the red-clad Tehran-based giants following protracted talks with the club’s officials.

Khomarlou added that Taremi has already handed in his passport to authorities at Persepolis.

Given the time needed to process a visa application, we hope his visa is issued in a little while so he can join the training camp in Ukraine as soon as possible, the Persepolis spokesman pointed out.

Earlier, Dutch professional football club Groningen had considered a move for the Persepolis forward in this summer’s transfer window.

Taremi has also been on transfer radar to professional Croatian football club Građanski nogometni klub Dinamo Zagreb, commonly referred to as GNK Dinamo Zagreb, thanks to his great performance during the third round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament.

On June 12, the Iranian team, which has so far kept its clean sheet record unblemished at the third round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament, became the first Asian team - and the third squad after Brazil and hosts Russia - to secure its place at the quadrennial international football tournament.

Iranian national football team defeated Uzbekistan 2-0 at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

Iranian professional footballer Sardar Azmoun, who currently plays as a striker for FC Rostov in the Russian Premier League, opened the scoring for the host team in the 23rd minute.

Taremi found the back of the net from inside the area in the 88th minute, and finished off the White Wolves.
